Satellite Lamps reveals the invisible accuracy of GPS positioning across an urban landscape. Three lamps with built-in GPS receivers vary their brightness depending on signal accuracy, photographed over time to build a picture of how these signals behave in actual urban spaces.

## [Making Future Magic: iPad light painting](https://www.elasticspace.com/2010/09/making-future-magic/)

Video: [Making Future Magic: iPad light painting](https://vimeo.com/14958082)

Made at [BERG](http://berglondon.com/blog/2010/09/14/magic-ipad-light-painting/) for [Dentsu London](http://www.dentsulondon.com/blog/2010/09/14/light-painting/), this film explores playful uses for the increasingly ubiquitous ‘glowing rectangles’ that inhabit the world. We use photographic and animation techniques that were developed to draw moving 3-dimensional typography and objects with an iPad. In dark environments, we play movies on the surface of the iPad that extrude 3-d light forms as they move through the exposure. Multiple exposures with slightly different movies make up the stop-frame animation. [More…](http://berglondon.com/blog/2010/09/14/magic-ipad-light-painting/)

## [Wireless in the World](https://www.elasticspace.com/2010/03/wireless-in-the-world/)

It aims to provoke discussion around the new ‘immaterials’ that underpin many of our urban interactive experiences. [More…](https://nearfield.elasticspace.com/2009/03/wireless-in-the-world)

## [Immaterials: Ghost in the field](https://www.elasticspace.com/2009/10/immaterials-ghost-in-the-field/)

*Ghost in the Field* makes the field around an RFID reader visible. Long-exposure photography traces the volume in which a tag and reader can talk; outside that volume, the radio falls off and nothing happens. Made with Jack Schulze as part of the [Touch project](https://nearfield.elasticspace.com/), 2009. [More…](https://nearfield.elasticspace.com/2009/10/immaterials-the-ghost-in-the-field)
